Ten years later, 'unbowed' New Orleans reflects on Katrina

A brass band performs in Jackson Square in New Orleans, LouisianaBy Kathy Finn and Edward McAllister NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - From the Lower Ninth Ward to the Superdome, New Orleans launched a day of events on Saturday to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, paying tribute to its victims and homage to the city's resilience in the face of disaster. Dignitaries made speeches to honor the 1,500 who died, brass bands marched through the streets and neighbors gathered for block parties across the city, where the mood shifted in turns from somber to reflective to celebratory. China's leadership fans smoldering antipathy toward Japan

Sculptures depicting Chinese suffering during World War II are seen at a park near the Memorial Museum of Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression in Beijing Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015. Man faces capital murder charge in killing of Houston deputy
Shannon Miles was picked up for questioning early on Saturday following the Friday night shooting, which was captured on surveillance video, Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman told reporters.
