A man stands in falling snow at the shore of the Hudson River in the New York City suburban town of Nyack, New YorkAlthough less intense than the harshest winter storms of the past month, snow fell from the nation's capital to New England, with southern sections of Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts hardest hit, according to the National Weather Service. A winter storm warning was posted for those areas. Companies' tests used in 'superbug' scope cleaning flawed: FDA
The scopes were linked to the exposure of 179 patients to drug-resistant bacteria at UCLA's Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Los Angeles and may have contributed to two deaths. In early 2014, following a superbug outbreak at a hospital in Illinois, the FDA asked Fujifilm Holdings Corp, Olympus Corp and Pentax, which make the devices, to submit their test results for review, Dr. Stephen Ostroff, the agency's chief scientist, said in an interview.     In some cases the tests were poorly carried out. In others, they were properly conducted but the cleaning and disinfecting protocol failed, said Ostroff, who will become the FDA's acting commissioner when Dr. Margaret Hamburg leaves at the end of March. The deficiencies in the companies' tests has not been reported.     The flawed data calls into question the reliability of all current cleaning and disinfecting protocols and expose a weakness in the FDA's regulation of such devices - one which the agency is now moving to close.
Americans say keep politics out of the Fed

The United States Federal Reserve Board building is shown behind security barriers in WashingtonJust 24 percent of those polled said Congress should be allowed to have detailed oversight of the Fed, the poll shows. The poll of 1,388 Americans was conducted from Feb 20-24 to measure whether people supported proposed legislation that would expose the Fed to a full government audit, a move being led by Rand Paul, a likely 2016 presidential candidate. Supporters of the campaign say the Fed needs more transparency and accountability. Opponents say the Fed is already audited, and that exposure of internal policy discussions could lead to political influence over decisions on interest rates and damage market confidence.
