Delta plane slides off runway at snowy New York airport

Plane slides off runway at LaGuardiaBy Laila Kearney NEW YORK (Reuters) - A Delta Air Lines Inc jetliner landing during a snowstorm at New York's LaGuardia Airport on Thursday slid off the runway and struck a fence before coming to rest at the edge of Flushing Bay, but there were no serious injuries. All 127 passengers and five crew members aboard were evacuated safely from the aircraft and moved to the airport terminal on buses, officials said. The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. EST (1600 GMT) as Delta flight 1086 was landing at LaGuardia after a morning flight from Atlanta.

The six-hour online auction of roughly $13.5 million worth of bitcoins at current prices began at 8 a.m. EST (1300 GMT). The Marshals Service conducted auctions in June and December for nearly 80,000 bitcoins seized during the Silk Road raid in 2013. Billionaire venture capitalist Tim Draper, winner of the past two auctions, has not submitted a bid.


Cardinal Edward Egan, former New York archbishop, dies

Egan, 82, who was archbishop from 2000 to 2009, was pronounced dead at NYU Langone Medical Center at 2:20 p.m., the Archdiocese said in a statement. "Thank God he had a peaceful death," his successor, Cardinal Timothy Dolan said in a statement. In 1988, was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut, by Pope John Paul II. In 2000, he was named archbishop of New York and made a cardinal in 2001.
