Governor says deadly flooding is worst ever seen in Texas area

Abbott declared states of disaster in 24 counties and flew over the area south of Austin to assess the damage caused by tornadoes, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and flooding that forced evacuations and rooftop rescues and left thousands of residents without electricity. "This is the biggest flood this area of Texas has ever seen," Abbott said.

Fire at China nursing home kills 38: state media

The fire broke out late on Monday at a private nursing home in Lushan county, the official Xinhua news agency said on Tuesday, citing local authorities. The cause of the fire, which injured six people, was unclear, Xinhua said.


Homicide probe to be launched into B.B. King's death: officials

U.S. blues legend B.B. King performs onstage during the 45th Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux(Reuters) - Nevada officials said on Monday they would conduct a homicide investigation into the death of B.B. King who died this month at age 89, after two of his daughters leveled accusations that the blues great was murdered. The Clark County, Nevada coroner's office said in a posting on Twitter that it had taken jurisdiction over King's body, and that autopsy results would take a minimum of six to eight weeks. "Our coroner takes jurisdiction over #BBKing body, performs autopsy.
