U.S. military mistakenly ships live anthrax to labs in nine states

The Centers for Disease Control sign is seen at its main facility in AtlantaBy Phil Stewart and Sharon Begley WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - The U.S. military mistakenly sent live anthrax bacteria to laboratories in nine U.S. states and a U.S. air base in South Korea, after apparently failing to properly inactivate the bacteria last year, U.S. officials said on Wednesday. The Pentagon said there was no known suspected infection or risk to the public. Twenty-two personnel at the base in South Korea were also given precautionary medical measures although none have shown sign of exposure, the U.S. military said.

U.S. settles 'pay for delay' fight with drugmaker Cephalon
U.S. antitrust regulators have settled a long-running fight with Cephalon, now owned by Teva Pharmaceuticals, over how it resolved a patent infringement lawsuit over the sleep disorder drug Provigil, the Federal Trade Commission said on Thursday. Cephalon had been accused by the FTC of illegally protecting its monopoly on Provigil by paying generic drug makers to drop their challenges to Cephalon's patent.
U.S. training of Syria rebel fighters expands to Turkey: source
By Phil Stewart WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. military has started training Syrian opposition fighters in Turkey to combat Islamic State, an expected expansion of a program that first launched in Jordan weeks ago, a U.S. official told Reuters on Thursday. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, did not offer details on the size of the first group of recruits undergoing training in Turkey or the specific start date. The Pentagon declined to comment.
